Joseph Thiebes is a Priest, Initiator, and artist in Portland, Oregon. Originally hailing from the wild mountains of Montana, where he began his 20-year study of the esoteric arts, he served as an officer of Sekhet-Maat Lodge, Ordo Templi Orientis 2000-2009, and as Lodge Master 2006-2009. Joseph is a member of the U.S. Grand Lodge Strategic Planning Committee and maintains the U.S.G.L. Online Library.
Joseph’s writing and editing work has contributed to the development of O.T.O. in Portland and to the promulgation of the Law of Thelema worldwide. He is a principal contributor to Thelemapedia, former editor of Agapé and of Lion & Serpent; and is a founding co-producer of the monthly Speech in the Silence podcast and the creator of the political parody campaign, Aleister Crowley 2012.
Joseph has participated in hundreds of public dramatic rituals in the last two decades, in every aspect of such productions, from performance in solo ritual, to Eucharistic ceremony and initiatory rites, to directing and producing invocative performances with full lighting & live music, to promotion and support of dramatic ritual groups in other cities like Eleusyve Productions.
Joseph has spoken publicly on a variety of topics including Thelema, magick, and organizational leadership in Portland and various other locations in the U.S. and abroad. He continues to create and offer presentations at Sekhet-Maat Lodge and elsewhere on a regular basis. Each second Tuesday he facilitates discussions on Thelemic texts at the Lodge, and speaks regularly at the biennial National O.T.O. Conference. Joseph is the creator and moderator of Thelemic Symposium, an annual event since 2002.
